Senior Living represents an attractive residential environment with facilities (catering, leisure, etc.), personal care and services, designed to meet the needs and wishes of senior citizens. Senior Living consists of Comfort Living, Assisted Living and Nursed Living. Comfort Living stands for carefree living, Assisted Living for living with optional care, and Nursed Living provides personal care and attention 24 hours a day.

The location of Senior Living Bergambacht is excellent: next to a monumental windmill, it has astonishing views of the picturesque countryside, is within walking distance of the city centre, is easily accessible by car and public transport and located favourably with regard to neighbouring cities Rotterdam, Gouda and Schoonhoven.

Size:
Senior Living Bergambacht will be developed on a plot of 1.2 hectares. On completion, Senior Living Bergambacht will consist of around 36 rooms Nursed Living and around 50 units Assisted Living.

Make
The making of:
Verheijen Smeets Architects BNA designs the urban plan for Senior Living Bergambacht. Bureau RBOI handles the spatial procedures and related research.

Challenges:
An important challenge for the design of Senior Living Bergambacht is to fit the new resort into its surroundings: the monumental windmill, surrounding buildings, ditches, flora & fauna.
Phase I (January 2009 – June 2009): redevelopment of existing ‘Hotel Arendshoeve’ into Nursed
Living units.
Phase II (Jan. 2009 – Jan. 2010): development of 5,000 m² next to former hotel into Assisted Living complex.
Phase III: possible development of Comfort Living units in the area.

TCN has had constructive meetings with Laurens, a large non-profit organisation specialised in care, services and senior living.
